Both bikes are among the bestsellers in the segment and the country. Until now, atleast from this comparo, the TVS Apache RTR 160 4V is among the bestselling TVS bikes in the business. Now, after the arrival of the Xtreme 160R 4V, its TVS counterpart might get overshadowed, as it looks more upmarket and boasts a lot of new-age features. Yes, a few features here and there are distinctive but they might not be a priority for the buyer.
Further, there is also a considerable difference in their specifications but have nearly-identical pricing. The starting price of the TVS Apache RTR 160 4V has a starting price of Rs 1,20,000, while the Hero Xtreme 160R 4V’s price starts from Rs 1,41,000. All are ex-showroom prices.
So, let’s weigh the differences and see how these two 160cc bikes stack up against each other.
Specifications Comparison
For starters, let’s talk about the underpinnings of these two homegrown bikes. Both have performance-centric riding dynamics. Yes, these companies have focused on efficiency as well, but they are majorly focused on performance. However, the TVS Apache RTR 160 4V uses a TVS in-house-designed double-cradle synchro stiff chassis, which is known for being lightweight and agile.
On the other hand, the Xtreme 160R 4V is structured on a tubular underbone diamond-type chassis which has the same characteristics as the Apache RTR. The kerb weight of this Hero bike is 145 kg, while its counterpart weighs 146 kg. From the portfolio of Hero bikes, the Xtreme series caters to different buyers, especially adrenaline enthusiasts.
As far as the figures go, the Hero Xtreme 160R 4V is powered by a 163.2cc, single-cylinder, air/oil-cooled engine, which is tuned to churn out 16.6 bhp at 8500 rpm and 14.6 Nm of peak torque at 6500 rpm.
In contrast, the Apache RTR 160 4V can make a sprint from its 159.7cc, single-cylinder, oil-cooled engine, which is tuned to pump out 16.2 bhp at 8000 rpm and 14.8 bhp at 6500 rpm.
Comparing the figures of these two 160cc bikes, the TVS bike is more powerful than the Hero Xtreme. Check out the Apache RTR 160 4V price here.
Both have a fuel tank capacity of 12 litres.
Moreover, you can expect a slightly better range from the Hero Xtreme 160R 4V, as it has lesser power and weighs a kg lighter than its TVS counterpart.
Besides their engine outputs, these two bikes have a suspension setup which is on par but the Xtreme has a better setup. The TVS Apache RTR 160 4V has a telescopic fork suspension at the front and a monoshock suspension at the rear.
In contrast, the Xtreme 160 has two types of front suspension setups with an unchanged rear suspension. In all of its variants, the rear end stands on a seven-step adjustable suspension. And, unlike the top-most variant’s KYB-sourced upside-down forks at the front, the rest of the variants stand on standard telescopic forks. Check out the Xtreme 160R 4V price here.
The top-most variant of the Hero Xtreme has a much better suspension setup than the TVS Apache, as a result, it is capable of delivering performance-oriented handling. However, both are designed keeping comfort and performance in mind. At the same time, these homegrown bikes can absorb the undulations seamlessly and sail through the bumps from potholes with ease. Besides the suspension setups, the Xtreme has disc brakes as standard, while the Apache RTR 160 4V has dual disc brakes as optional. That said, its base variant has a single disc, while the rest of the variants have all-disc brakes.
For added safety, both homegrown 160cc offerings are equipped with a single-channel ABS. This safety feature is very useful as it offers more stability and grip in various road conditions.
Moreover, both bikes run on standard 17-inch alloy wheels, alongside a standard rear tyre profile. The only difference is the front tyre profile of these two. The Xtreme’s front tyre profile is rated at 100/80 R17, while the Apache RTR 160 4V’s front tyre profile is rated at 90/90 R17.
Features Comparison
As mentioned earlier, both bikes have different features here and there, but they will hardly matter. Please note that the features mentioned here belong to the top-most variant of these two bikes.
Let’s start with the Hero Xtreme’s exclusive features. It has a side-stand alarm and a stepped seat. In contrast, the RTR 160 4V’s exclusive offerings include ride modes, TVS glide through technology (GTT), a killswitch, a low battery indicator, and a gear shift light. You can check out the RTR 160 4V price here.
However, the common features comprise GPS and navigation, mobile app connectivity, fully digital instrument cluster, low fuel indicator, low oil indicator, clock, and automatic headlights-on. Other common offerings include all LED lights (front, rear and indicators), pass lights, LED DRLs, electric start, and a pillion seat with footrests and grabrails.
